DESCRIPTION: 2.2cm in diameter and up to 1.6cm high. The outer shell of this algal feeding creature has a ground colour of olive-grey green with diagonal stripes that are dull purple. Towards the apex the colours lighten and can be yellowish-orange. The umbilicus as seen below is large and round and is a distinctive ID feature. DISTRIBUTION: Widespread throughout. HABITAT: On the upper levels of rocky shores. It can be tolerant of brackish waters. BEST TIME TO SEE: All year round.   |
